Derek Wyre - Aberdovey, Wales, 1954
I was given the opportunity to do a months course as a apprentice with the Birmid industries,it was a hard but a great experience, I arrived in October the weather was wet and cold so the cold shower at six in the morning told me I needed to toughen up.Rowing the cutters with your hands frozen to the oars, the assault course up and over the scramble nets and up Birdsrock for an overnight stay in a derelict building thathave stuck in my memory, but it made me realise life,s a challenge so live it to the full. Iam now 78 years old and apart from doing my National Service in Singapore, my Outward Bound Course was a great memory.
