Donald Tonks - Eskdale, The Lake District, 1950
My dad attended the Outward Bound school in either 1950 or 1951. He was sent there by the National Coal Board he worked at Silverdale colliery near Maltby in South Yorkshire. He was always into sport especially swimming and running. He. Talked about his time there through to his passing in 2017 and achieved a medal for swimming across a lake, it was winter time and very cold, he was one of the first to make it across. All my childhood he always had an enamel lapel badge on his jacket and would tell me about his time there. Unfortunately I have been unable to find the badge that had so much sentimental value for nothing my dad and myself. I would love to see any photos of the time there or of anyone who was there at around the same time.
