Gorm Simonsen - Eskdale, The Lake District, 1977

Hi
I'm Norwegian (now living in Denmark).
Back in 1977, at my 16.th birthday, I was given a 4 week Rovercourse (R15) that same month (from june 26 - july 20) at Eskdale. Traveling alone back and forth was a daunting experience, staying alone at a hotel for the first time, traveling across the northern England by train, stepping on to the railway platform at Raveglass hoping to get picked up by someone called David - it was forgotten the moment I arrived at the camp (actually I was stationed at the OBT center the night before we started😊👍).
4 weeks in a tent, up early every morning going for a dip in a nearby creek (cold water streaming down from the lakes!), learning all sorts of climbing, rappelling, orientation, whitewater canoeing, cross country hiking and of course every day chores in the camp, with all my new friends - I was as happy as I could be.
We did Napes Needle, we camped at the top of Scafell Pikes (no tent, just put our sleeping pad on the rocks), we visited Hadrians Wall and much much more.
I hope everybody can have a similar experience at some point in their lives.

Thank you Outward Bound Mountain School (that was their name, back then😊)!
