Hugh Rees - Aberdovey, Wales, 1974

I was on course a340 at Aberdovey for four weeks in September 1974. That is me, the handsome fellow second from left on the front row I have never been so fit as I was after that course, I could run like Jason Bourne . I was quite a shy lad at 19 and do not think I got as much out of the course as I should have. I remember all the faces but no names. I remember two lads were police trainees but I tried not to hold it agains thame. I did enjoy it though ( I'd previously been to Ullswater for a week - I was a NCB apprentice and they really invested some money in me.)

I think learning about teamwork helped a lot throughout my fire service career, I retired in 2005 as a Station Manager, although I work part time still as a safety adviser. I still enjoy the outdoors and still sail, I have a Tideway dinghy. My favourite part of the course was getting into the mountains, which were just spectacular. I'm pretty sure Outward Bound would help straighten out some of the yobs that seem to be everywhere now. Fantastic experience.
