John McCallum - Devon on Ashburton, 1967
I was at the school in Devon in June 1967 in Carew patrol and, while I enjoyed all four weeks, my favourites were rock climbing, potholing, surf canoeing and the final trek. We started that near Tintagel on the west coast of Cornwall. At the end of the first full day we were camped at Gunnislake beside the River Tamar (the eastern border of Cornwall) and trekked over Dartmoor back to the school by the end of Day 2 (a whole day early). We were filmed by Westward TV leaping off Holne Bridge into the River Dart and were photographed by a local paper climbing on Dewerstone Rocks. What a wonderful four weeks!
