Five reasons to go Outward Bound at Aberdyfi

1. It’s on the beach.

The location of the Aberdyfi centre is MEGA. None of our other centres are coastal, and from the centre you get an incredible view out to sea that simply can’t be beaten. Aberdyfi gives you the best of both worlds: head up into the North Wales hills, or paddle out onto the Dyfi estuary – a UNESCO world biosphere reserve.

2. And it’s recently had an upgrade!

Don’t worry – we’ve changed it for the better. As a charity, we’re lucky enough to receive fantastic support to allow us to continue to deliver quality outdoor learning courses. We’ve invested some of that support in a swanky dining hall upgrade – so you can fuel your adventures to the max.

3. It’s the ORIGINAL Outward Bound centre.

Sure, the Ullswater and Howtown centres are great, Eskdale couldn’t be more picturesque, and what an incredible location Loch Eil has. But they’re not the original, are they? Outward Bound started off as a sea school to train young sailors at the Aberdyfi centre in 1941, and it remains our nerve centre to this day. It’s no coincidence that it is our biggest and busiest centre - there’s something pretty special about going Outward Bound in a place where so many have gone before you.

4. The facilities are pretty cool

You can make the most of the natural environment with the help of our 5 log cabins, set in the wilderness of Snowdonia National Park. This means camping is always an option, even when the weather does it’s worst! We are also lucky to have private waterfront and jetty facilities, so we can get out on the water whenever we want.

5. It's the only place you'll find our famous jetty jump

If you’ve ever spoken to anyone about their Outward Bound course, you’ll know about the jetty jump. The jetty is an iconic landmark in the village of Aberdyfi and we’re really in to jumping off of it (into that wonderful estuary).

The jetty jump was born at Aberdyfi– we try to recreate it at other centres but truth be told, it’s just not as much fun. Not sold on the idea? Well, let’s just say that no-one who’s ever done it has regretted that decision…
