Business Need
GSK plan a unique development week for their apprentices in every year of their apprenticeship. For their first year apprentices, this week must develop the key personal, social and emotional skills that they'll need in their day to day work.
RESULT
Since 2013, Outward Bound and GSK have partnered to deliver a transformational learning programme for all first year apprentices. This week is packed with experiential activities and facilitated review sessions so that the apprentices can learn about themselves and build lasting networks and friendships with fellow apprentices from the UK and beyond.
Post their Outward Bound programme, GSK apprentices
- Begin to understand the six GSK Expectations. These are aligned to the global performance system and define what is required of everyone at GSK.
- Understand and are using the GSK Change Framework steps: diagnose, design, implement, embed and grow, engage and learn.
- Have the confidence to challenge and show initiative - key personal, social and emotional skills that they take back into their day to day work.
- Have built networks with other apprentices from all across GSK, in the UK and beyond.
What did your apprentices learn this week?
Here's some inspiration from GSK's class of 2017 - in their own words...
"This week's given me the ability to challenge what's happening around you...and voice your own ideas"
"I'm not normally a confident person, and I think building all these teams skills has really given me a lot more confidence, and I'll take that back into the workplace"
