September: The Best Month to Build Your Foundation

Hello Team OB runners!

September has arrived, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to lay down a strong foundation for the TCS London Marathon. Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or a first-timer, this month is crucial for building endurance, staying motivated, and getting organised.

Let’s dive into some tips and resources to help you along the way!

Finding Motivation to Start Early

Starting your marathon training early is key to success, and there’s no better motivation than learning from those who’ve been in your shoes. Head over to the #Team OB hub, where you’ll find new content that shares the experiences of previous runners.

Fuel Up: High-Energy Snacks

Your training runs are going to ramp up, and so will your need for energy! We’ve got you covered with a selection of high-energy snacks that will help you refuel after those tough workouts. Think along the lines of protein-packed bites, energy bars, and of course, our Outward Bound flapjack recipe—a team favourite! Speaking of which…

The Outward Bound Flapjack Recipe

Perfect for on-the-go energy, this flapjack recipe is not only delicious but also easy to make. Packed with oats, nuts, and just the right amount of sweetness, it’s the ideal snack to keep you fuelled during training. Want to try it out? Watch the full recipe video here.

Get Organised: Travel and Accommodation

Traveling to London for the marathon? We know that planning can be a bit overwhelming, so we’ve made it easier for you. We’ve secured a group discount at The Royal Horseguards Hotel, a luxurious 5-star hotel in central London. Located right next to Embankment tube and Charing Cross train station, it offers direct transport links to the marathon start line in Greenwich/Blackheath. More to follow about this deal in October's Newsletter!

But that’s not all! After you cross the finish line on April 27th, join us for a post-race reception at the hotel, which is just a 10-minute walk from the finish line on the Mall.

Boost a fellow #TeamOB runner with a Virtual High Five!

Running a marathon is a journey filled with challenges, triumphs, and the incredible support of those around you. And what better way to keep the momentum going than by boosting your fellow Team OB members with a virtual high five?

How to Get Involved:

  1. Check Out #TeamOB on Enthuse: Head over to Enthuse and see who’s running alongside you this year. Whether it's a familiar face or someone new to the team, every runner can use a little extra motivation.
  2. Give a High Five: Donate £5 to a team member’s fundraising page and include a motivational message to lift their spirits. It’s a small gesture that can make a big impact!
  3. Spread the Love: Here’s an example of what you could say: “High five! I can’t wait to run alongside you as part of Team OB this year.” Simple, encouraging, and sure to put a smile on their face.

Remember, we're all in this together, and every bit of support is well reciprocated. Keep up the great work you friendly bunch!
