SCQF CREDIT RATED
The Outward Bound Trust offers SCQF Credit Rated learning experiences for senior pupils, all inspiring young people to become strong, resilient and curious – ready for the challenges of life.
- SCQF Level 5 – 5 Credits – Adventure and Challenge Award – suitable for S2-S5 Pupils
- SCQF Level 6 – 6 Credit Points – Teams and Leaders Award – suitable for S5 and S6, workforce, and youth development organisations
And for participating schools within the Mark Scott Award Partnerships:
- SCQF Level 7 – 9 Credit Points - Community Leadership Award
Adventure & Challenge Award (SCQF Level 5)
The 5-day residential is SCQF level 5 credit rated with 5 credit points. The course utilises the Outward Bound Trust’s learning model to create a learning atmosphere developing the necessary skills and understanding for participants to develop their potential, and become contributors to effective teams.The Award comprises of 7 units:
- Improve confidence to overcome new challenges.
- Develop skills in setting and achieving personal goals.
- Increase self-awareness and personal responsibility.
- Increase awareness of other people.
- Improve ability to work and communicate with other people.
- Increase concern for and awareness of the natural environment.
- Develop an action plan.
Wild Locations
We believe that the best learning is in the wild. Our centres are based in some of the wildest and most spectacular places in the UK - but still have all the comforts you need after a long day in the great outdoors!
TEAMS & LEADERS AWARD (SCQF Level 6)
This 5-day residential is SCQF Level 6 credit rated with 6 credit points and is recognised by Insights Scotland for those with an SQA candidate number. The Award builds on personal development of the participants and develops their understanding of how high performance teams work, how they develop, and how they can be fostered using basic Business and Psychological modelling to explain team and team member behaviours.
The Award supports learning within SQA Leadership, Higher Business Studies and Psychology and comprises of 10 units:
- Improve confidence and apply understanding of your reactions and feel increased control
- Develop skills in setting and achieving personal goals.
- Increase self-awareness and personal responsibility.
- Increase awareness of other people and utilise this to develop self and others
- Improve ability to work with other people, and foster high performance team development
- Increase concern for and awareness of the natural environment and the leave no trace principles
- Develop an action plan.
- Design and implement your own learning
- Identify your values and act on them
- Understand how effective teams work in reality
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD (SCQF Level 7)
Currently this Award is only available to participants within the Outward Bound Trust’s Mark Scott Award, as an optional path for development. This is a 5-day residential course, followed by a 3-4 months community action student run project, and is credit rated at SCQF Level 7 with 9 credit points and recognised by Insights Scotland. It builds on the experience of the Level 6 Teams and SCQF Level 6 Leaders Award with an additional 2 units and increased reflection, project management, and action planning within the community project element.
